About Syrinx

Learn the birds by listening

Syrinx is an independent bird-song learning project developed in France. Its purpose is simple: help listeners recognize birds with their own ears.

Why Syrinx exists

Automatic identification can suggest an answer, but it does not create a lasting listening skill. Syrinx uses short lessons, real recordings, active recall, comparison, spectrograms, and repeated review so a voice becomes familiar enough to recognize outdoors.

The app is being prepared for iPhone. The free guides on this website explain the same learning method and can be used before the app launches.

How the guides are prepared

Guides are written and published under the Syrinx name. They focus on practical listening methods, distinguish songs from calls where relevant, and link to the references that informed each article. Sources are listed at the end of every guide so readers can check the underlying material.

Syrinx does not claim institutional endorsement or substitute for expert verification of an uncertain field record. When a confident identification matters, compare several recordings, consider place and season, seek visual confirmation, or consult an experienced local birder.

Media and corrections

Public bird recordings and photos retain creator, source, and license information on the sources page. If a credit is missing or a guide needs correction, email support@syrinxbirdsong.com. Clear corrections are made directly in the relevant page and its updated date.
